Pastel or Light Tan Chinchilla

A pastel is a commonly used pet term for a light tan. In Europe the pastel is a charcoal (recessive ebony) crossed with beige. Light Tans are a beige and ebony cross and like an ebony they should have brown on the belly as well as the sides and back.

Both of these sisters are pastels. You can see that their bellies are shades of light brown insetad of white.

This picture was taken in 2001 and my experience has been that wire shelving in cages greatly increases the chance of a broken leg. I use and recommend wood shelving.
